Clean, renewable offshore wind power is coming to California. Castle Wind is at the forefront of making it happen.

Castle Wind has led the effort to bring clean, renewable offshore wind power to California

In January 2016, we were first to recognize the potential of harnessing the power of offshore wind off the coast of Morro Bay when we urged the state and federal government to take action.

At the same time, we understood that to accomplish anything bold in California, all voices deserve a seat at the table. Now, Castle Wind is on the verge of securing California’s clean energy future – working with local communities to build 1,000 megawatts of clean energy off the Central Coast and to create well-paying local jobs for Californians in the process.

Securing Our Clean Energy Future, Together

At Castle Wind, our philosophy is simple: In California, local voices matter, and a diverse coalition of stakeholders should have a seat at the table when planning our clean energy future.

We are committed to working with the local community to ensure that the benefits from offshore wind power are shared justly and equitably for generations to come.

We can protect our natural resources and secure our economic future when we work together.

Community Milestones

Castle Wind has been on the ground in Central California since 2016. Today, we have the local benefits agreements and stakeholder relationships in place to develop clean power for 400,000 homes in San Luis Obispo County, reduce our statewide carbon emissions, and stand up a diverse workforce with economic opportunities for the Central Coast.

Castle Wind completes formation of the Morro Bay Lease Areas Mutual Benefits Corporation (MBC). The structure of the Morro Bay MBC is based on the successful transoceanic fiberoptic cable model established 22 years ago (available here) that the California Coastal Commission found sufficient to protect the economic and commercial importance of fishing activities consistent with the state’s enforceable coastal policies.

The board of the newly-formed organization – which includes two representatives from each MBCFO and PSCFA, two representatives from Castle Wind, two seats for representatives from other project developers, and one Harbor Master – will be working together to encourage other project developers to join the Morro Bay MBC prior to the upcoming lease auction.
